3 Most Important Days In The Life of a Man

In the place of meditation with regards to my birthday, something began to unfold in my mind that I felt obliged to share. There is a popular saying that there are three most important days in the life of a man; his
birthday, his wedding day and his death day, but I beg to disagree. I looked closely at that line of conversation and realized that it is not exactly true. To understand what I mean, we will have to isolate the word “most important”, as it is the major operational word in that thought.

The word, “important connotes something that is of significant value and often times rare. Against the backdrop of that definition, the days above mentioned become a little less important; why? UNICEF estimates 255 births per minute, 15, 000 births each hour and 353, 000 babies born every day. On the other hand, Ecology Global network postulates that 151, 000 deaths each day, 6, 316 people die each hour and 105 people die per minute. How many people wed every Wednesday? So what if the event in question happens alongside many other, how do we yours being special?
Note here therefore, that these events in themselves, do not have the capacity to determine the importance of the day, as much as the personalities involved in the events. Make no mistakes about it; the birthday, the wedding day and the death day of a man are most definitely very important. My point here is that I defer on the intensifier, “most”. I hold that there are other days more important that those above mentioned.

For instance, there is what I call the SELF REALIZATION DAY. The self realization day describes the situation where a man comes to a sudden self awareness. It is that time when a man suddenly begins to ask questions like what is happening to me? Why am I here? It is that moment when a man becomes restless and insists on a change. It is that day when an exhausted Rosa Parks refuses to bend to status quo by standing up for a white boy in a public bus, thereby triggering off the much talked about bus boycott in Montgomery, USA.

It is that day when a Mahatma Ghandi experiences a humiliating racial discrimination encounter, as a stranger in South Africa, which became the beginning of the non-violence change model movement. It is that day when an impoverished Singapore under the leadership of the late legendary Lee Kwan Yew set out on a journey from a third world to a first world nation. It is that day when that menacing German Monk by the name of Martin Luther the reformer discovered by revelation knowledge that “… the just shall live by faith…” as against penance and religious rituals for sins, which became the beginning of the great reformation that shook the entire Roman Catholic church to its very foundations, sweeping across Europe and beyond with trans-generational consequences.

It is that day when a poor wretched sinner driven by deep seated conviction surrenders his life to Christ and lays hold on salvation. On self realization day, a new man comes alive. Self realization day is that day teaches a man some of the most important lessons in life and changes him forever. It is the day of discovery. More days to come in a few days. Happy birthday to me
